Learners Guide

Walker Ceramics stock everything that the person beginning ceramics may need. We stock over 40 varieties of clay, an extensive range of glazes and a full range of accessories.

The most commonly used clays are White Earthenware (Product Code AA300), No.10 Stoneware (Product CodeAA100), White Hand Building (Product CodeAA225), School Earthenware/Stoneware (Product Code AA220) & Terra Cotta (Product Code AT320).

These clays have all been developed in our own laboratory and have passed stringent quality controls.

It is simply a matter of picking the right clay for the work you wish to do.

Earthenware Glazes

Lead Free
These glazes can be applied to earthenware clays and fired to earthenware temperatures. They are food and drink safe.

Fritted Lead Glazes.
This glaze range can be applied in the same manner as the lead free glazes but some of them are not food & drink safe. They are glaze numbers 130, 156, 158, 159, 160 &194. All other glazes in the range are non-toxic and food and drink safe when fired correctly.

Middle Fire Glazes
This range of glazes has been developed to fire at 1250°C. They can be applied to almost any clay body that fires in this temperature range.

Stoneware Glazes
A range of glazes designed for application to stoneware bodies that fire between 1260°C and 1300°C.

All these glazes are available in powder form but only the earthenware and stoneware ranges are available in liquid. The liquid glazes are ready to use but must be shaken and stirred well before use.

We also have two ranges of Liquid Colours called Wunder Colours & Design Colours, plus, a full range of Potters Colours & Mason stains for making your own colours as your skill level increases. All the Liquid colours are ready to use after having been shaken and stirred.

Wunder Colours are 30 Liquid Opaque Underglazes for application to greenware or bisqueware, and then coated with a clear gloss glaze.

Design Colours are 245Liquid Colour Concentrates for application either under or over a glaze.

Walker Ceramics have a tool kit with the beginner in mind. It consists of the most commonly used tools.
